Overview

In the 80s of the last century, the Rover Group conducted research and concluded that the consumer needed a compact SUV. Deciding to start developing the model, the company began to look for a partner, as a considerable budget was required for this project. At that time, the Rover Group worked with the Japanese Honda, but the Japanese refused to partner and began to develop a project of this type.

Sufficient funding was received only in 1994 when the company was headed by BMW, and in 1997 the first Land Rover Freelander was already produced.
