Overview

The 2022 Land Rover Defender is a K2 SUV with all-wheel drive. The official debut of the model took place at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2019.

According to the manufacturer, the new Defender is a reincarnated legend for the 21st century. True, in addition to the cult name, there is nothing in common between SUVs. Even the numbers 110 in the title are a tribute to the past. They no longer indicate the length of the wheelbase (in inches), but simply indicate the five-door modification.

In terms of dimensions, the 100th is slightly superior to the fifth Discovery: length – 5018 mm/4970 mm, wheelbase – 3022 mm/2923 mm, height – 1967 mm/1888 mm, and only in width 2022 Land Rover Defender (2008 mm) is slightly inferior to Discovery (2073 mm).

Having moved to the D7x platform (an upgraded version of the D7 “trolley”), the car lost its frame, continuous axles, and a mechanical box. From now on load-bearing body, independent suspension (front – double-lever, rear – multi-link), and 8-speed “automatic” ZF. At the same time, the manufacturer assures that the new aluminum monocoque is three times stiffer than any frame structure, and in terms of margin of safety, it is many times higher than all Land Rover standards.

Despite the conceptual design of the exterior, the designers still tried to preserve the former charm, leaving the car with a square and expressive silhouette and several recognizable attributes, such as a swinging tailgate with a spare wheel mounted on it, a characteristic optics pattern and small windows in the roof.
